The Center for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education is developing a new Regional STEM competition.
Our Regional SeaPerch Competition is based on the National SeaPerch student completion. SeaPerch information can be found at http://www.seaperch.org/index. This link http://www.seaperch.org/what_is gives information on the benefits and curricular objectives met by using SeaPerch.
In this competition students will design, construct, and operate an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to perform a series of tasks. Students will also be required to design a poster board and make a short presentation on their design process. In order to participate in this regional competition we are asking you to agree to do the following:
1) Attend the two day training, total of ten hours, information below. We will build a ROV and test it too!
- The training takes place , from on the campus of UNC Charlotte, College of Education Building Room 036. Park in the Union Visitor’s Deck. , November from at Morehead STEM Academy near the University. We will provide directions to Morehead STEM Academy to all participants on Friday, Nov. 18th. 2) Work to bring at least one team (three students on each team) to the Regional SeaPerch Competition at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatic Center http://www.brunswickcc.edu/dinah-e-gore-fitness-aquatics-center/ in Wilmington, NC.
For your participation and agreeing to the above, you will receive the following:
1) One SeaPerch ROV kits to use with your students (a $180 value)
2) 1 CEU of Science Credit
Teams that win at our Regional SeaPerch Competition will receive medals and certificates and some will qualify to advance to the National SeaPerch Competition.
We are inviting only 10 teachers to participate in this program.
